Troubleshooting

Most problems come from three things: a browser without WebGPU, a busy server (“Too many people are playing”), and a slow first download. Here is what each message means and what to try.

Check the version before trying an old fix

The character screen shows the version and build in its bottom-right corner (v0.106.0, build 414af44c on October 21, 2026). The Windows client checks for updates and offers "A new version is out!" with a download; the browser version updates when the page reloads. Fixes written for an older build may not apply.

"This browser has no WebGPU"

The world is rendered with WebGPU. The page's own advice: "use a current Chrome, Edge or Safari (Linux Chrome: enable chrome://flags/#enable-unsafe-webgpu)".

  • Update the browser and your graphics driver.
  • Turn on hardware acceleration in the browser settings.
  • Firefox and older Safari versions may not have WebGPU enabled; switch to Chrome or Edge.
  • If the game still fails, the page shows "The game failed to start in this browser" with a reason; include it if you ask for help.

"Too many people are playing"

The browser version runs on the project's own server. When it is busy, the page shows "Too many people are playing!!! Join our Discord or download the game for Windows!!!". Wait and reload, or use the Windows build. Do not use mirror sites; they are not the game.

Stuck or slow loading

Loading has three stages: "Downloading client" with a percentage, "game data — x/517", then "preparing world data — x/349". Each stage can sit still for a while on the first visit. Keep the tab in the foreground, avoid reloading halfway, and give it a few minutes. If it truly stops, reload; files already downloaded are reused.

Crashes on phones

Phones can play with touch controls, but a phone's graphics driver can crash while the game prepares a shader. The game then explains that "the phone's graphics driver crashed" and asks you to reload; it usually continues afterwards. If it repeats, play on a desktop browser or the Windows build.

"Fake website detected!"

The game shows this when it is loaded inside another website, followed by a link to "its real page". Open wow.aethus.pldirectly. This guide never embeds the game for that reason.

Lag and visual noise

Late waves fill the screen with spell effects and damage numbers. Options → Graphics has render scale, view distance and spell detail settings, and the Interface tab can hide parts of the HUD such as the damage meter, clock or loot list. Lower render scale first; it has the biggest effect on frame rate.

The Options window: Controls, Gamepad, Interface, Action Bars, Combat, Chat, Key Bindings, Nameplates, Graphics, Audio, AddOns and Saves. Captured from wow.aethus.pl, v0.106.0, October 21, 2026. Game by Aethus.

Lost or moved progress

Progress is stored in the browser, so clearing site data, a private window or a different browser starts fresh. Prevent it with Options → Saves → Export Save, which writes AzerothSurvivors.sav. Import Save loads a file (and replaces your current progress), and the game keeps the last 5 hourly backups you can restore. A file that was edited or damaged is rejected ("That save file is damaged or was edited").

Reporting a bug

Use the official Discord. Include the version from the character screen, your browser and operating system, class and zone, and what happened just before. For graphics crashes the browser console holds a report of the shader that was being built.

FAQ

Why does Azeroth Survivors say "This browser has no WebGPU"?

The game renders with WebGPU. Use a current Chrome, Edge or Safari, update the browser and graphics driver, and on Linux enable chrome://flags/#enable-unsafe-webgpu in Chrome.

What does "Too many people are playing" mean?

The browser version is served by the project's own server and shows this message when it is busy. The message itself points to the official Discord and the Windows download; try again later or play the Windows build.

Why is Azeroth Survivors loading so slowly?

The first visit downloads the client, then 517 game data files, then prepares 349 world files. On our connection that took several minutes. Later visits reuse the browser cache.

Sources and verification

Checked on October 21, 2026 against Azeroth Survivors v0.106.0 (build 414af44c) in a desktop browser. Names and descriptions come from the game's own menus and English text; numbers marked X grow with talent rank and are only shown in game. Balance changes often, so check the version in the bottom-right corner of the character screen before following an older guide.
