Shaman overview

The Shaman starts with Lightning Bolt and 195 health. Chain Lightning jumps between enemies, shocks hit hard on short cooldowns, and totems drop beside you to fight on their own. The Restoration tree hides one of the best safety talents in the game: Reincarnation leaves you at 50% health instead of dying, once every 2 minutes.

Strengths

  • Chain Lightning clears lines of enemies
  • Totems add damage while you move
  • Reincarnation milestone prevents a death every 2 minutes

Watch out for

  • Totems stay where they were dropped
  • Mid-range health (195)

Shaman spell pool

Every level-up deals three cards. A new spell card takes one of your 6 spell slots; an upgrade card improves a spell you already know and ranks it up. Card rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary) decides how strong the bonus is. These are the 11 spells the Shaman can be offered:

  1. Lightning BoltStarting spell
  2. Chain LightningEarly pick
  3. Earth Shock
  4. Flame ShockEarly pick
  5. Frost Shock
  6. Lightning ShieldEarly pick
  7. Magma TotemEarly pick
  8. Searing TotemEarly pick
  9. Fire Nova
  10. Healing Wave
  11. Call of Flame

Early picks are our suggestions for a first run. Spells cast on their own: you only move, and each spell fires when it is off cooldown and enemies are in range.

Shaman talent trees

Talents are permanent and per class. Every run pays your Shamans talent experience (time survived, kills, bosses, a win, and more in harder zones); the first point arrives at 80 experience and a class can earn 51 points. A new row opens for every 5 points spent in a tree, and the milestones at 10, 20 and 30 points change how your spells behave. Respecs are free, and the Armory keeps three specs.

Values written as X grow with each rank; the game shows the exact number when you point at a talent. Use theShaman talent calculator to plan points.

Best race for a Shaman

Racials cast on their own, so they matter more here than in the original game. The Shaman can be: Orc, Tauren, Troll.

Horde

Tauren

Endurance (+15% max health) and War Stomp stuns.

Horde

Orc

Hardiness (+10% max health) and Blood Fury damage windows.

Shaman gear set and weapons

Bosses drop Shaman gear that stays with the class for good: 54 pieces across nine slots and six rarities, from Elwynn Forest commons to Naxxramas legendaries. The set name changes with each tier:

PrimalElementsEarthfuryTen StormsEarthshatter

Weapon lines:

Where each tier drops: gear and drop tables.

A first Shaman run

Pull enemies into lines so Chain Lightning jumps the whole way. Drop totems where you plan to circle back.

Pick a race from the list above, enter Elwynn Forest, and aim to see the first boss, Hogger, at 3:00. Even a short run pays talent experience. Compare with the other classes: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Druid.

FAQ

How much health does the Shaman start with in Azeroth Survivors?

195 health. That is #6 of 9 classes; the range runs from 165 (Warlock) to 245 (Paladin). Every level then adds 9 maximum health, 3% damage and 0.08 health per second.

What spell does the Shaman start with?

Lightning Bolt. Every level-up deals three cards from the Shaman's 11-spell pool, and a new spell takes one of 6 spell slots.

What are the Shaman capstone talents?

Elemental Mastery (Elemental), Feral Spirit (Enhancement), Totemic Wrath (Restoration). A capstone needs 30 points in its tree; a class can earn 51 talent points in total.

Which race is best for a Shaman?

There is no fixed best race, but Tauren and Orc and Troll have the most useful racials for this class: Endurance (+15% max health) and War Stomp stuns.

Is the Shaman good for beginners?

We rate it Medium to learn. It is forgiving once its defensive spell shows up, but weaker before that. This is our assessment of starting health, range and self-protection, not a win-rate ranking.
